Civility

On Nova, we believe that real learning happens when learners are comfortable and able to fully express themselves as individuals.   That's why the  concept of civility is central to all we do.

Our learning community is at its best when each learner is being treated with the dignity and respect that all humans deserve.  With civility as one of our guiding principles, Nova is  a place where all learners are encouraged to grow socially and academically.

On Nova, we value civility because it encourages growth.  We know that our learners are our future and we are working to make it a bright one.

Community

On Nova, we believe that in this time of great change, the creative collaboration of our  communities will prove to be our greatest strength.  That's why we aim to build partnerships within our community and beyond.

The use of technology fits naturally with our vision because it encourages collaboration.  Today's learners use technology to  share and learn from each other in ways that have previously been unimaginable.

On Nova, collaboration is fundamental to all we do.  Our learners use technology to engage in collaborative and authentic projects that have relevance to their lives and the world.

philosophy

We believe that a positive learning community is based on the principles of knowledge, community, and civility.

Knowledge

On Nova, we believe in the innate curiosity of all human beings.   With this as our starting point, we aim to stir the natural desire to learn with authentic experiences that educate and inspire intellectual growth.

Our approach to teaching and learning allows learners to actively build their knowledge through authentic tasks.  Knowledge is constructed through experience, not passed from teacher to student.   On Nova, learners "discover" the world for themselves with the guidance of our expert teachers.

We believe that knowledge brings opportunity.  This is why we strive to encourage our learners to build the skills and habits of mind to open any door.
